The concepts of the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 are some of the best we have seen in years. Some are far-out experiments, some preview a possible direction for a car maker's design themes - but others preview production cars we could be able to buy in the near future.

Here's our pick of the best here at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011.

Jaguar C-X16

The stunning Jaguar C-X16 has wowed almost everyone at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is beautiful yet the design is also production-ready as you see it here. The hybrid drivetrain seems certain too. It's a concept worthy of the E-Type tag in every way.

Land Rover DC100

Land Rover needs to replace the Defender in 2015: here is its first concept idea. Frankfurt seemed to like it, particularly the surprise open-top Sport version. Could it be first time lucky for the challenge of replacing the original Land Rover?

VW NILS

Volkswagen is developing the NILS concept with German urban planners. The 85mph top speed seems a bit urban-unfriendly, but it has a 40 mile electric-only range and, more importantly, looks amazing.

Ford Evos

The new Ford Capri? No, maintains Ford, it's a design study, to show off the brand's new design language. It looks wonderful to us, though - and as it's coming to mainstream Fords in time, surely it could also come to a Focus-derived three-door coupe to rival the Vauxhall Astra GTC?

Kia GT

Nobody saw this coming from Kia: a big four-door coupe to take on the Mercedes CLS on a budget. Kia's first-ever rear-drive car, it packs a 333hp V6 turbo too, giving it the firepower to match its amazing looks.

Citroen TUBIK

Citroen feels executive people-carrying travel should be much more than just a van with seats. It has thus reinvented its historic 1940s TUB van, turning it into a nine-seater van with a lavish rear 'living area'. HYbrid4 running gear means it's green too - and viable?

Audi Urban Car Concept

Audi's Urban Car Concept duo show how the future of city mobility will look, Audi-style. The electric concepts have 1+1 seating, free-standing wheels and, in the Spyder, a full-length sliding roof. Worth trading your Audi A1 for?

Vauxhall RAK e

The surprise Vauxhall RAK e has a daft name but looks incredible. Designed with teenagers in mind, it will be affordable too: the best electric city car concept of all here at Frankfurt?

Fisker Surf

This amazing sports-station wagon is the super-green alternative to a Ferrari FF. It has a range-extender electric drivetrain and, yes is actually going to make production, some time in 2013.

BMW i8

The amazing BMW i8 is a BMW 8 Series for the 21st century. Fast, green and, promises BMW, great to drive, it arrives soon after the BMW i3 in 2013, with styling pretty much as you see it here.
