Sony has taken the wraps off the NEX-VG20, a consumer HD interchangeable lens camcorder that follows the world's first consumer-oriented HD camcorder with an interchangeable lens system, the NEX-VG10. The upcoming NEX-VG20 features the same E-mount system that offers users the choice of seven different E-mount lenses. Sony claims the VG20 offers a number of improvements over the previous model, including comprehensive manual controls, improved imaging quality, upgraded sound, and ergonomic refinements such as enhanced grips and a second record button.

With the same Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor found in Sony's NEX-5N and NEX-C3 still cameras, the VG20 offers an effective resolution of 16.1 megapixels to capture 16 megapixel stills in RAW format and Full HD video in AVCHD format in 24p and 60p. For a more cinematic look, footage shot at 24p can also be enhanced with Cinema Tone Gamma and Cinema Tone Color. With the use of E-mount lenses, the sensor also allows for the creation of background defocus - or "bokeh" - effects.

Having to stop shooting high definition movies to a take a still image is somewhat frustrating, and can lead to a rather disjointed digital record of an otherwise enjoyable or important moment. There is no such restriction with the SZ-30MR super-zoom from Olympus.

Thanks to a dual image processor, users will be able to record full HD movies and snap a full resolution image at the same time. The camera also benefits from fast burst shooting, dual image stabilization and tracking autofocus.

Since introducing its modular GXR camera system towards the end of 2009, Ricoh has kept its promise of regularly adding new interchangeable units to the setup.

The line now includes four units which between them offer a broad range of different lens and sensor configurations. Now, the company is branching out a bit with the announcement of an expansion unit that will give users the freedom to use different lenses.

The new GXR Lens Mount Unit is scheduled for Q3 availability and will feature an APS-C size (23.6 x 15.7mm), 12.9 megapixel CMOS sensor and a newly-developed focal plane shutter – but it's the lens mount part of the module that's the most interesting feature. For the first time, GXR users will also be able to attach any Leica M mount lens on the camera system.
