Lenovo's Hybrid Laptop to See India Launch in 2011
Looks like the massive influx of Android powered tablets into the Indian market isn’t going to stop anytime soon. According to a story done by AndroidOS.in, Lenovo India MD Amar Babu has stated that both the U1 IdeaPad and the LePad would be launched in India this year.
It has been more than a year since Lenovo first unveiled the U1 IdeaPad- a laptop (or a laptop with netbook form factor) with a touchscreen that can be detached and used as a separate Android tablet. The base laptop will be powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Core i5-540UM and will run Windows 7.
After the screen is detached from the U1 IdeaPad, what you get is the Android 2.2 running LePad. The LePad is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon. When it was first announced, the LePad was running Linux but now at CES 2011, Lenovo showed that the detachable tablet would instead be running Android.
While the U1 IdeaPad is expected to launch in China in March, we still don’t know if the LePad will available separately as a stand-alone tablet. This confusion is further compounded by the fact that previously the LePad did have a separate price-tag of somewhere between the $399 (Rs. 18,000 approx.) and the $449 (Rs. 20,300 approx.) mark. On the other hand, the U1 is expected to have a price-tag of $1,000 (Rs. 45,250 approx.).
Do you think you would want to buy the LePad separately as a standalone Android tablet or rather, conversely, would you want to buy the U1 with the added bonus of a touchscreen tablet?
